War Room: A Dark Conspiracy – Week 7 Field Report

WEEK 7 – Reports from the Battlefront

63 clashes reached the campaign desk this week, and the war took on a stranger shape: less a clean reshuffle than a grinding of old scores, fresh wounds and unexpected revivals.

The global crown remains in Skaven claws, but Week 7 belonged on the tabletop to the Ogre Kingdoms, who took a perfect return from three appearances. Kislev also surged, the Tzar’s riders carving a path upward through local massacres and satellite wins, while Hordes of Chaos and Tomb Kings kept the pressure on the upper board. The hardest fall was daemonic: the hosts of the warp plunged from the top four into the middle pack after a week of failed incursions.

Best performers this week:

  • Ogre Kingdoms: 3.00 PPG over 3 games; W7 rank #1 ↑ (from #17).
  • Kislev: 2.50 PPG over 6 games; W7 rank #2 ↑ (from #7).
  • Hordes of Chaos: 2.25 PPG over 4 games; W7 rank #3 ↓ (from #2).
  • Tomb Kings: 2.20 PPG over 5 games; W7 rank #4 ↑ (from #9).
  • Chaos Dwarfs: 2.14 PPG over 7 games; W7 rank #5 ↔ (stable).
  • High Elves: 2.12 PPG over 8 games; W7 rank #6 ↓ (from #1).
  • Dark Elves: 1.88 PPG over 8 games; W7 rank #7 ↑ (from #13).
  • Bretonnia: 1.82 PPG over 11 games; W7 rank #8 ↔ (stable).
  • Vampire Counts: 1.71 PPG over 7 games; W7 rank #9 ↑ (from #12).
  • Lizardmen: 1.67 PPG over 6 games; W7 rank #10 ↓ (from #4).
  • Dwarfs: 1.62 PPG over 8 games; W7 rank #11 ↓ (from #6).
  • Orcs & Goblins: 1.00 PPG over 12 games; W7 rank #12 ↑ (from #18).
  • Skaven: 1.00 PPG over 3 games; W7 rank #13 ↓ (from #3).
  • Wood Elves: 1.00 PPG over 3 games; W7 rank #14 ↓ (from #11).
  • Dogs of War: 0.90 PPG over 10 games; W7 rank #15 ↓ (from #14).
  • Beastmen: 0.50 PPG over 8 games; W7 rank #16 ↓ (from #15).
  • Daemons: 0.50 PPG over 4 games; W7 rank #17 ↓ (from #10).
  • The Empire: 0.31 PPG over 13 games; W7 rank #18 ↓ (from #16).

On the global board, Skaven remain #1 despite a poor weekly return, Dark Elves hold #2, and Hordes of Chaos keep #3. High Elves rise into #4, Chaos Dwarfs climb into #5, and Daemons tumble from #4 to #10. Lower down, Kislev and Ogre Kingdoms both give their followers cause to shout, while the Empire and Beastmen continue to bleed ground.

Battles of note:

  • Ogre Kingdoms produced the only perfect weekly return, taking three wins from three appearances and giving the Maw its cleanest campaign week so far.
  • Tzar_Dom’s Kislev tore through Beastmen and Orcs & Goblins locally before the satellite rota added further wins, making the Ice Queen’s armies the week’s sharpest climbers.
  • Hashut’s followers lit the local tables: Hashut_Yannick and Zharr_Naggrund_K delivered three Chaos Dwarf massacres, including a 3,000-point crushing of the greenskins.
  • The week’s strangest coalition came in The Old World, where Daemons fought beside Bretonnia against an Orc & Goblin Troll Horde supported by Chaos Dwarfs. The Troll Horde side took the field with a Minor Victory.
  • The Asur-Druchii feud flared again across the satellite fronts, with High Elves twice beating Dark Elves in Rear Guard actions even as the Druchii claimed other victories elsewhere.

Here is the master ledger of this week’s tabletop advances.

Beastmen

  • Global standing: #18 ↔ (stable).
  • W7 performance: #16 ↓ (from #15).
  • W7 return: 8 games; 0.50 PPG.
  • Record: 8/3/24 (+1/+1/+6).

The brayherds had another week of fury without reward. A single satellite victory could not hide local losses to Bretonnia and Kislev or the brutal attentions of Hashut’s followers.

The herds end the week at the foot of the table. Rage is plentiful; results are not.

Chaos Dwarfs

  • Global standing: #5 ↑ (from #8).
  • W7 performance: #5 ↔ (stable).
  • W7 return: 7 games; 2.14 PPG.
  • Record: 16/5/13 (+4/+0/+3).

Hashut’s followers burned hot again. The Dawi-Zharr mixed triumph and disaster, but the local furnaces roared loud enough to drag them up into the global top five.

Battles in Karak Norn Wargaming this week

• [6th Edition – Local] Across a field fought as Pitched Battle, Zharr_Naggrund_K’s Chaos Dwarfs pressed hard into Luccini_Merchant’s Dogs of War in a 2,000-point army. By the final turn, their line had been broken utterly: Massacre.

• [6th Edition – Local] Across a field fought as Capture, Hashut_Yannick’s Chaos Dwarfs crossed blades with Heldenhammer_ZH’s Empire in a 2,000-point army. The enemy host was smashed from one end of the field to the other: Massacre.

• [6th Edition – Local] On ground marked for Pitched Battle, Zharr_Naggrund_K’s Chaos Dwarfs pressed hard into Waaagh_Silvan’s Orcs & Goblins in a 3,000-point grand host. When the dust settled, the opposing line had ceased to exist in any useful sense: Massacre.

Reports of battles across the world

• [6th Edition – Satellite] In the smoke and confusion of Pitched Battle, a Dawi-Zharr column of Chaos Dwarfs clashed with an Imperial army of Empire in a 500-point Border Patrol. The enemy found the telling pressure-point and forced them back: Solid Defeat.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] In the smoke and confusion of Meeting Engagement, a Dawi-Zharr column of Chaos Dwarfs drove into a Kislevite rota of Kislev in a 500-point Border Patrol. The enemy found the telling pressure-point and forced them back: Solid Defeat.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] In the smoke and confusion of Meeting Engagement, a Dawi-Zharr column of Chaos Dwarfs drove into a brayherd of Beastmen in a 2,000-point army. By battle’s end their banners still stood over the contested ground: Solid Victory.

The forge-fires have lifted the Dawi-Zharr into fifth. The price was paid in blood on both sides, but Hashut has always accepted such currency.

Dark Elves

  • Global standing: #2 ↔ (stable).
  • W7 performance: #7 ↑ (from #13).
  • W7 return: 8 games; 1.88 PPG.
  • Record: 24/8/7 (+6/+0/+2).

The Druchii answered the loss of the crown with cold efficiency. Their local raids cut down the Dogs of War, while their wider war mixed victories over Daemons, Wood Elves and greenskins with painful checks from Ulthuan.

Battles in Karak Norn Wargaming this week

• [6th Edition – Local] Across a field fought as Chosen Objective, Druchii_Steff’s Dark Elves pressed hard into Tilean_Paymaster’s Dogs of War in a 500-point Border Patrol. The advance held, the enemy gave ground, and the result was clear: Solid Victory.

• [6th Edition – Local] With the battle plan set as Chosen Objective, Druchii_Steff’s Dark Elves clashed with Tilean_Paymaster’s Dogs of War in a 500-point Border Patrol. The field was carried in disciplined fashion: Solid Victory.

Reports of battles across the world

• [6th Edition – Satellite] With the battle plan set as Exterminate, a Druchii raiding force of Dark Elves pressed hard into a greenskin horde of Orcs & Goblins in a 500-point Border Patrol. A handful of standards and bodies made the difference: Minor Victory.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] Under the demands of Pitched Battle, a Druchii raiding force of Dark Elves advanced against a woodland warhost of Wood Elves fielding Spirits of Athel Loren (WE-AB) in a 3,000-point grand host. The enemy line moved with the Spirits of Athel Loren at its back, the woods themselves seeming to answer the call. Spellsingers whispered through branch and root until the battlefield itself seemed to listen. The margin was narrow, but the ledger favoured them: Minor Victory.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] In the smoke and confusion of Pitched Battle, a Druchii raiding force of Dark Elves drove into Zambula’s Wood Elves fielding Spirits of Athel Loren (WE-AB) in a 2,000-point army. The enemy line moved with the Spirits of Athel Loren at its back, the woods themselves seeming to answer the call. Spellsingers whispered through branch and root until the battlefield itself seemed to listen. A handful of standards and bodies made the difference: Minor Victory.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] In the smoke and confusion of Pitched Battle, a Druchii raiding force of Dark Elves fell upon a daemonic host of Daemons in a 2,000-point army. Tzeentchian fire and muttering unreality crawled over the field. The field was carried in disciplined fashion: Solid Victory.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] Across a field fought as Rear Guard, a Druchii raiding force of Dark Elves advanced against a glittering Asur host of High Elves in a 2,000-point army. The field was lost before the army could turn the fight back in its favour: Solid Defeat.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] In the smoke and confusion of Rear Guard, a Druchii raiding force of Dark Elves pressed hard into a glittering Asur host of High Elves in a 2,000-point army. The line bent, broke, and was driven from the field: Solid Defeat.

Naggaroth still waits just below the summit. If Week 8 offers the Druchii more victims and fewer Asur counterstrokes, the crown could yet change hands again.

Daemons

  • Global standing: #10 ↓ (from #4).
  • W7 performance: #17 ↓ (from #10).
  • W7 return: 4 games; 0.50 PPG.
  • Record: 24/6/14 (+1/+0/+3).

The veil flickered rather than tore. Be’lakor won locally, but the wider daemonic record was grim, with High Elves, Dark Elves and the Troll Horde all denying the warp the week it wanted.

Battles in Karak Norn Wargaming this week

• [6th Edition – Local] Across a field fought as Breakthrough, Be_lakor_CH’s Daemons fielding Daemonic Legion (SoC, p.27-32) clashed with Ironbreaker_Chris’ Dwarfs fielding Standard List (DW2-AB) in a 3,000-point grand host. The Daemonic Legion tore at the veil around the field, its warriors less an army than a wound in reality. The Dwarfs came on in a standard fighting order of shield, steel and stubborn contempt. They held just enough of the field to claim the day: Minor Victory.

Reports of battles across the world

• [The Old World – Satellite] Across a field fought as Pitched Battle, a daemonic host of Daemons, supported by a Bretonnian lance of Bretonnia advanced against a greenskin horde of Orcs & Goblins fielding Troll Horde (AJ), supported by a Dawi-Zharr column of Chaos Dwarfs in a 2,000-point army. Opposite them came a Troll Horde, thick-skinned, ill-tempered and almost insultingly hard to put down. This was a true coalition clash: Daemons fought beside Bretonnia, while Orcs & Goblins marched with Chaos Dwarfs. The enemy took the field by the slimmest useful margin: Minor Defeat.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] With the battle plan set as Breakthrough, a daemonic host of Daemons pressed hard into a glittering Asur host of High Elves in a 500-point Border Patrol. Tzeentchian fire and muttering unreality crawled over the field. The line bent, broke, and was driven from the field: Solid Defeat.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] Under the demands of Pitched Battle, a daemonic host of Daemons advanced against a Druchii raiding force of Dark Elves in a 2,000-point army. Tzeentchian fire and muttering unreality crawled over the field. The field was lost before the army could turn the fight back in its favour: Solid Defeat.

The daemonic hosts fall sharply this week. For the first time in some time, the mortal realms look less like prey and more like resistance.

Dogs of War

  • Global standing: #15 ↓ (from #13).
  • W7 performance: #15 ↓ (from #14).
  • W7 return: 10 games; 0.90 PPG.
  • Record: 10/7/24 (+2/+2/+6).

The paychest took a beating. One local massacre and a named satellite victory gave the mercenaries something to toast, but too many contracts ended with broken pikes and unpaid survivors.

Battles in Karak Norn Wargaming this week

• [6th Edition – Local] Under the demands of Chosen Objective, Tilean_Paymaster’s Dogs of War drove into Druchii_Steff’s Dark Elves in a 500-point Border Patrol. The line bent, broke, and was driven from the field: Solid Defeat.

• [6th Edition – Local] Across a field fought as Chosen Objective, Tilean_Paymaster’s Dogs of War pressed hard into Druchii_Steff’s Dark Elves in a 500-point Border Patrol. The line bent, broke, and was driven from the field: Solid Defeat.

• [6th Edition – Local] On ground marked for Pitched Battle, Luccini_Merchant’s Dogs of War fell upon WhiteTower_HP’s High Elves fielding High Elf Sea Patrol (SoC, 9.94-95) in a 2,000-point army. Across the field, the High Elf Sea Patrol moved with cold coastal discipline and spear-bright confidence. Renowned champions were reported on both sides, turning the engagement into a clash of names as much as armies. After the last charge spent itself, the battle remained unresolved: Draw.

• [6th Edition – Local] Under the demands of Pitched Battle, Luccini_Merchant’s Dogs of War drove into Zharr_Naggrund_K’s Chaos Dwarfs in a 2,000-point army. By the final turn, the field was nothing but wreckage and trophies: a Massacre.

Reports of battles across the world

• [The Old World – Satellite] With the battle plan set as Table Quarters, a mercenary company of Dogs of War drove into a Nehekharan host of Tomb Kings in a 500-point Border Patrol. Neither side could force the final breach: Draw.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] With the battle plan set as Pitched Battle, Zambula’s Dogs of War advanced against a midnight host of Vampire Counts in a 2,000-point army. The line bent, broke, and was driven from the field: Solid Defeat.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] Under the demands of Breakthrough, a mercenary company of Dogs of War clashed with a greenskin horde of Orcs & Goblins in a 2,000-point army. The line bent, broke, and was driven from the field: Solid Defeat.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] On ground marked for Breakthrough, a mercenary company of Dogs of War fell upon a Dwarf throng of Dwarfs in a 500-point Border Patrol. The field was lost before the army could turn the fight back in its favour: Solid Defeat.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] With the battle plan set as Breakthrough, a mercenary company of Dogs of War advanced against a Dwarf throng of Dwarfs in a 500-point Border Patrol. The line bent, broke, and was driven from the field: Solid Defeat.

• [The Old World – Satellite] In the smoke and confusion of Pitched Battle, the Dogs of War fell upon the Lizardmen in a 2,500-point army. The air shimmered with temple-magic and the cold design of the Old Ones. The advance held, the enemy gave ground, and the result was clear: Solid Victory.

A mercenary captain can survive a bad week. A campaign cannot be won on unpaid bravery, and the Dogs need better contracts quickly.

Hordes of Chaos

  • Global standing: #3 ↔ (stable).
  • W7 performance: #3 ↓ (from #2).
  • W7 return: 4 games; 2.25 PPG.
  • Record: 26/4/11 (+3/+0/+1).

The northern hosts remain lodged in the elite pack. Week 7 was smaller in volume but still dangerous, with Chaos winning more often than it bled and keeping enough pressure on the leaders to make every banner above them nervous.

Battles in Karak Norn Wargaming this week

• [6th Edition – Local] Under the demands of Chosen Objective, Khorne_Mathias’ Hordes of Chaos fielding Archaon's Horde (SoC, p.18-23), supported by Heldenhammer_ZH’s Empire fielding Cult of Ulric (CR-04, p.2-13) pressed hard into Everchosen_ZH’s Hordes of Chaos fielding Archaon's Horde (SoC, p.18-23), supported by Tzunki_Tom’s Lizardmen in a 500-point Border Patrol. Archaon’s Horde lent the line the weight of the Storm of Chaos, all iron will and ruinous purpose. This was a true coalition clash: Hordes of Chaos fought beside Empire, while Hordes of Chaos marched with Lizardmen. The enemy found the telling pressure-point and forced them back: Solid Defeat.

• [6th Edition – Local] Across a field fought as Chosen Objective, Everchosen_ZH’s Hordes of Chaos fielding Archaon's Horde (SoC, p.18-23), supported by Tzunki_Tom’s Lizardmen clashed with Khorne_Mathias’ Hordes of Chaos fielding Archaon's Horde (SoC, p.18-23), supported by Heldenhammer_ZH’s Empire fielding Cult of Ulric (CR-04, p.2-13) in a 500-point Border Patrol. Reports of battles across the world

• [8th Edition – Satellite] In the smoke and confusion of Pitched Battle, a northern warband of Hordes of Chaos clashed with a midnight host of Vampire Counts in a 2,000-point army. A figure of legend marched with their host, drawing every eye toward the heart of the battle. By battle’s end their banners still stood over the contested ground: Solid Victory.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] With the battle plan set as Pitched Battle, a northern warband of Hordes of Chaos crossed blades with a Dwarf throng of Dwarfs in a 2,000-point army. The field was carried in disciplined fashion: Solid Victory.

Chaos is no longer climbing in a frenzy; it is consolidating with menace. The top three is theirs for now, and the Dark Gods are unlikely to be content with that.

Lizardmen

  • Global standing: #9 ↔ (stable).
  • W7 performance: #10 ↓ (from #4).
  • W7 return: 6 games; 1.67 PPG.
  • Record: 18/7/11 (+3/+1/+2).

The temple-cities held to the Great Plan with measured discipline. The cohorts struck down Skaven and Empire, but losses elsewhere kept their weekly return respectable rather than spectacular.

Battles in Karak Norn Wargaming this week

• [6th Edition – Local] With the battle plan set as Flank Attack, Sotek_Awakens’ Lizardmen clashed with Strigoi_Marco’s Vampire Counts in a 750-point warband. After the last charge spent itself, the battle remained unresolved: Draw.

The Great Plan advances by inches. It is not glorious, but it is hard to stop.

Ogre Kingdoms

  • Global standing: #14 ↔ (stable).
  • W7 performance: #1 ↑ (from #17).
  • W7 return: 3 games; 3.00 PPG.
  • Record: 9/6/14 (+3/+0/+0).

The Ogres finally found a week worth feasting over. Three games, three victories, and a perfect weekly return gave the gutlords the loudest short-form performance of Week 7, even if the wider campaign table still keeps them in the lower pack.

Battles in Karak Norn Wargaming this week

• [6th Edition – Local] Under the demands of Flank Attack, Tyrant_Urs’ Ogre Kingdoms crossed blades with ABadPainter’s Empire in a 750-point warband. The enemy host was smashed from one end of the field to the other: Massacre.

The Ogres were the week’s perfect performers, even if the campaign table is slow to reward them. The Maw has tasted victory; now it wants volume.

Orcs & Goblins

  • Global standing: #16 ↑ (from #17).
  • W7 performance: #12 ↑ (from #18).
  • W7 return: 12 games; 1.00 PPG.
  • Record: 16/10/48 (+4/+0/+8).

The Waaagh! made more noise than progress, which is still more progress than last week. Four wins gave the greenskins fresh songs, while eight defeats ensured the songs were mostly shouted over arguments.

Battles in Karak Norn Wargaming this week

• [6th Edition – Local] On ground marked for Capture, Waaagh_Silvan’s Orcs & Goblins fell upon Tzar_Dom’s Kislev in a 500-point Border Patrol. By the final turn, their line had been broken utterly: Massacre.

The Troll Horde lurched forward in a wall of bad temper, worse smell and alarming resilience. This was a true coalition clash: Orcs & Goblins fought beside Chaos Dwarfs, while Daemons marched with Bretonnia. A handful of standards and bodies made the difference: Minor Victory.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] With the battle plan set as Meeting Engagement, a greenskin horde of Orcs & Goblins crossed blades with a Kislevite rota of Kislev in a 3,000-point grand host. The advance held, the enemy gave ground, and the result was clear: Solid Victory.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] In the smoke and confusion of Pitched Battle, a greenskin horde of Orcs & Goblins advanced against a Dwarf throng of Dwarfs in a 2,000-point army. The enemy found the telling pressure-point and forced them back: Solid Defeat.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] Across a field fought as Meeting Engagement, a greenskin horde of Orcs & Goblins clashed with a glittering Asur host of High Elves in a 2,000-point army. The field was lost before the army could turn the fight back in its favour: Solid Defeat.

The greenskins climb by sheer refusal to stop fighting. It is ugly, noisy and somehow still alive.

Vampire Counts

  • Global standing: #6 ↓ (from #5).
  • W7 performance: #9 ↑ (from #12).
  • W7 return: 7 games; 1.71 PPG.
  • Record: 21/3/11 (+4/+1/+2).

The dead recovered some of the certainty they lost in Week 6. Necromancy carried several satellite fields, though clashes with High Elves and Chaos reminded the midnight courts that not every grave opens on command.

A storied enemy champion stood against them, lending the opposing line a dangerous centre of gravity. The enemy found the telling pressure-point and forced them back: Solid Defeat.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] In the smoke and confusion of Capture, a midnight host of Vampire Counts clashed with a Dwarf throng of Dwarfs in a 2,000-point army. The dead remain in the upper pack. Their losses sting, but their victories suggest the crypt doors are far from shut.

  • W7 return: 8 games; 2.12 PPG.
  • Record: 20/8/9 (+5/+2/+1).

The Asur could not repeat their Week 6 dominance, yet Ulthuan still rose. Sea Patrol reverses hurt, but repeated satellite victories against Dark Elves, Daemons and greenskins kept the white banners moving upward.

Ulthuan rises to fourth, not with the thunder of Week 6 but with the steadier confidence of a faction that knows it now belongs among the leaders.

Kislev

  • W7 return: 6 games; 2.50 PPG.

Kislev rode out of the snow with real purpose. Local massacres and a string of satellite successes made this the Tzar’s strongest showing yet, the sort of week that turns a desperate rearguard into a campaign again.

Kislev’s climb is the week’s best proof that the lower board is not fixed. The ice is spreading at last.

Skaven

  • W7 return: 3 games; 1.00 PPG.

The ratmen kept the global crown, but Week 7 gnawed at its foundations. Three appearances against Lizardmen produced only one win, and the Under-Empire suddenly looks more vulnerable than its position suggests.

The crown remains theirs, but the squeaking from beneath it is growing louder. Week 7 did not dethrone the Skaven; it merely showed the rest of the campaign where to put the knife.

Tomb Kings

  • W7 performance: #4 ↑ (from #9).
  • W7 return: 5 games; 2.20 PPG.
  • Record: 25/11/12 (+3/+2/+0).

The dead of Nehekhara did not surge so much as advance with terrible patience. Draws could not stop their climb, and their repeated work against the Empire made Week 7 feel like a slow burial.

Nehekhara rises by patience rather than drama. That may be the most dangerous sort of rise in the whole campaign.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] On ground marked for Pitched Battle, Zambula’s Wood Elves fielding Spirits of Athel Loren (WE-AB) crossed blades with a Druchii raiding force of Dark Elves in a 2,000-point army. The forest slips, though it does not break. Athel Loren will need sharper ambushes if it means to reclaim the middle ground.
