War Room: A Dark Conspiracy – Week 6 Field Report

WEEK 6 – Reports from the Battlefront

78 clashes reached the campaign desk this week, and with them came a sharp reshuffling of the war.

Week 6 belonged, in spirit, to the High Elves, whose clean run gave them the best weekly return. In the wider campaign, however, the loudest headline is verminous: Skaven clawed past the Dark Elves and took the global crown. Behind them, the Hordes of Chaos made the week’s most dramatic charge, thundering up from the middle ranks into the top three.

Best performers this week:

  • High Elves: 2.60 PPG over 5 games; W6 rank #1 ↑ (from #2).
  • Hordes of Chaos: 2.56 PPG over 9 games; W6 rank #2 ↑ (from #9).
  • Skaven: 2.14 PPG over 7 games; W6 rank #3 ↑ (from #6).
  • Lizardmen: 2.00 PPG over 7 games; W6 rank #4 ↑ (from #5).
  • Chaos Dwarfs: 2.00 PPG over 7 games; W6 rank #5 ↑ (from #15).
  • Dwarfs: 1.92 PPG over 12 games; W6 rank #6 ↑ (from #7).
  • Kislev: 1.83 PPG over 6 games; W6 rank #7 ↑ (from #12).
  • Bretonnia: 1.80 PPG over 15 games; W6 rank #8 ↑ (from #17).
  • Tomb Kings: 1.78 PPG over 9 games; W6 rank #9 ↓ (from #4).
  • Daemons: 1.70 PPG over 10 games; W6 rank #10 ↔ (stable).
  • Wood Elves: 1.67 PPG over 6 games; W6 rank #11 ↓ (from #3).
  • Vampire Counts: 1.50 PPG over 6 games; W6 rank #12 ↓ (from #1).
  • Dark Elves: 1.50 PPG over 6 games; W6 rank #13 ↓ (from #11).
  • Dogs of War: 1.14 PPG over 7 games; W6 rank #14 ↓ (from #8).
  • Beastmen: 0.62 PPG over 8 games; W6 rank #15 ↓ (from #14).
  • The Empire: 0.62 PPG over 13 games; W6 rank #16 ↔ (stable).
  • Ogre Kingdoms: 0.57 PPG over 7 games; W6 rank #17 ↑ (from #18).
  • Orcs & Goblins: 0.19 PPG over 16 games; W6 rank #18 ↓ (from #13).
On the global board, Skaven remain at #1 under the cumulative PPG table, with Dark Elves still close behind at #2 and Hordes of Chaos making the week’s most spectacular jump into #3. Daemons, Vampire Counts and High Elves now crowd the upper pack, while Tomb Kings slip sharply despite a respectable weekly return. Lower down, Bretonnia and Kislev both climb, while Orcs & Goblins and Beastmen endure the hardest falls.

Battles of note:

  • High Elf Sea Patrol vs Quatar’s Army: WhiteTower_HP’s High Elves fielding High Elf Sea Patrol broke Nehekhara_Pete’s Tomb Kings fielding Quatar's Army (WebGW) in a 3,000-point Last Stand. With SCs on both sides, this was the week’s grand set-piece clash.
  • Archaon’s Horde at the centre: Everchosen_ZH’s Hordes of Chaos fielding Archaon's Horde defeated Strigoi_Marco’s Vampire Counts three times in 500-point Capture the Centre fighting, including one Massacre. That brutal run explains much of Chaos’ leap up the standings.
  • Bretonnia’s thunderous breakthrough: Grail_Seeker led a 3,000-point Bretonnian host through Grimgor_Nick’s Orcs & Goblins in Breakthrough, scoring a Massacre and helping Bretonnia climb out of the lower reaches.
  • The alliance-marked satellite clash: In a 750-point The Old World Meeting Engagement, an Ogre warband fought beside Orcs & Goblins allies against a Dwarf throng supported by Bretonnia. The Dawi side secured a Solid Victory, making it the clearest alliance entry of the week.

Here is the master ledger of this week’s tabletop advances.

Beastmen

  • Global standing: #18 ↓ (from #17).
  • W6 performance: #15 ↓ (from #14).
  • W6 return: 8 games.
  • Record: 7/2/18 (+2/+0/+6).

The brayherds had a savage but miserable week. There were flashes of spite in the Reports of battles across the world, yet the local herdstones tell a darker tale: Daemons, Dogs of War and Kislev all carved bloody notches into the Beastmen record.

Battles in Karak Norn Wargaming this week

• [6th Edition – Local] Across a field fought as Pitched Battle, Bray_Shaman_Dave’s Beastmen clashed with Be_lakor_CH’s Daemons fielding Daemonic Legion (SoC, p.27-32) in a 2,000-point army. • [6th Edition – Satellite] With the battle plan set as Pitched Battle, a brayherd of Beastmen clashed with a Bretonnian lance of Bretonnia in a 500-point Border Patrol; their army yielded the field after a Solid Defeat.

The Beastmen finish the week at the foot of the table. The herds will need more than fury to claw their way back.

Chaos Dwarfs

  • Global standing: #8 ↓ (from #7).
  • W6 performance: #5 ↑ (from #15).
  • W6 return: 7 games.
  • Record: 12/5/10 (+3/+2/+2).

Hashut’s followers made Week 6 burn. The Dawi-Zharr were uneven, but when their furnaces roared they did so with terrifying force, recording several local massacres even as a mercenary disaster and Bretonnian resistance stopped the rise from becoming greater still.

Battles in Karak Norn Wargaming this week

• [The Old World – Local] Under the demands of Meeting Engagement, Zambula’s Chaos Dwarfs engaged Le_Duc_85’s Bretonnia fielding Bretonnian Exiles (AJ) in a 750-point warband; neither side was master of the field, ending in a Draw.

• [The Old World – Local] Across a field fought as Meeting Engagement, Zambula’s Chaos Dwarfs clashed with Le_Duc_85’s Bretonnia fielding Bretonnian Exiles (AJ) in a 750-point warband; their army was forced back by the narrowest of margins in a Minor Defeat.

• [The Old World – Local] Across a field fought as Breakthrough, Zharr_Naggrund_K’s Chaos Dwarfs fell upon Waaagh_Silvan’s Orcs & Goblins in a 2,000-point army. A Great Taurus thundered over the Dawi-Zharr advance, smoke and flame roiling ahead of the greenskin line. Their army broke the foe utterly in a Massacre.

• [6th Edition – Local] With the battle plan set as Capture, Hashut_Yannick’s Chaos Dwarfs crossed blades with Grimgor_Nick’s Orcs & Goblins in a 500-point Border Patrol. An Earthshaker Cannon boomed from the Chaos Dwarf line, breaking the ground beneath the greenskins. Their army broke the foe utterly in a Massacre.

• [6th Edition – Local] With the battle plan set as Breakthrough, Hashut_Yannick’s Chaos Dwarfs advanced against ABadPainter’s Empire in a 2,000-point army. Reports of battles across the world

• [6th Edition – Satellite] With the battle plan set as Pitched Battle, a Dawi-Zharr column of Chaos Dwarfs clashed with a Nehekharan host of Tomb Kings in a 2,000-point army; neither side was master of the field, ending in a Draw.

The Dawi-Zharr held their place and improved their weekly form; Hashut’s fires are burning brighter, even if the road upward remains crowded.

Dark Elves

  • Global standing: #2 ↔ (stable).
  • W6 performance: #13 ↓ (from #10).
  • W6 return: 6 games.
  • Record: 18/8/5 (+2/+3/+1).

The Druchii have surrendered the crown, though hardly their menace. Their week was a study in sharp blades and sharper setbacks: the Cult of Slaanesh cut down the Empire locally, while the wider war brought a grand victory, two draws and an old wound reopened by the Asur.

Battles in Karak Norn Wargaming this week

• [6th Edition – Local] In the smoke and confusion of The Patrol, Druchii_Steff’s Dark Elves fielding Cult of Slaanesh (SoC) met Heldenhammer_ZH’s Empire in a 750-point warband; their army won the field with a Solid Victory.

• [6th Edition – Local] In the smoke and confusion of The Patrol, Druchii_Steff’s Dark Elves fielding Cult of Slaanesh (SoC) met Heldenhammer_ZH’s Empire in a 750-point warband; neither side was master of the field, ending in a Draw.

Reports of battles across the world

• [6th Edition – Satellite] On ground marked for Capture, a Druchii raiding force of Dark Elves crossed blades with a greenskin horde of Orcs & Goblins in a 3,000-point grand host. Malus Darkblade rode with the Dark Elf host, turning the 3,000-point raid into a tale worthy of the black towers of Naggaroth. Their army carried the day with a Solid Victory.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] Under the demands of The Patrol, a Druchii raiding force of Dark Elves met a daemonic host of Daemons in a 750-point warband. The daemonic host was pure Tzeentch, all shifting forms, blue fire and treacherous sorcery. Neither side was master of the field, ending in a Draw.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] In the smoke and confusion of Rear Guard, a Druchii raiding force of Dark Elves met a glittering Asur host of High Elves in a 2,000-point army; the armies fought to a grim Draw.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] Across a field fought as Flank Attack, a Druchii raiding force of Dark Elves clashed with a glittering Asur host of High Elves in a 2,000-point army; their army was driven back in a Solid Defeat.

Second place is no disaster, but the loss of the throne will not be forgotten in Naggaroth. The Druchii remain close enough to strike back.

Daemons

  • Global standing: #4 ↔ (stable).
  • W6 performance: #10 ↑ (from #11).
  • W6 return: 10 games.
  • Record: 23/6/11 (+5/+1/+4).

The daemonic hosts remained terrifying, but Week 6 proved that even the things of the warp can be checked. They tore through the Beastmen locally and humbled the Empire from afar, yet hard losses against Lizardmen, High Elves and Skaven kept them from matching the week’s true frontrunners.

Battles in Karak Norn Wargaming this week

• [6th Edition – Local] On ground marked for Pitched Battle, Be_lakor_CH’s Daemons fielding Daemonic Legion (SoC, p.27-32) advanced against Bray_Shaman_Dave’s Beastmen in a 2,000-point army. Be'Lakor, the Dark Master, moved at the head of the daemonic legion, a living shadow falling across the Beastmen line. Their army forced the enemy back and claimed a Solid Victory.

• [6th Edition – Local] Under the demands of Pitched Battle, Be_lakor_CH’s Daemons fielding Daemonic Legion (SoC, p.27-32) advanced against Bray_Shaman_Dave’s Beastmen in a 2,000-point army. This was a storm of Tzeentchian fury, the Changer’s servants drowning the herd beneath sorcery, mutation and daemonic violence. Their army left the field strewn with wreckage after a Massacre.

Reports of battles across the world

• [8th Edition – Satellite] On ground marked for The Patrol, a daemonic host of Daemons fell upon an Ogre warband of Ogre Kingdoms in a 750-point warband. The Daemons fought beneath the sign of Tzeentch, their patrol bright with impossible colours and spiteful bolts of change-fire. Their army won the field with a Solid Victory.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] Across a field fought as The Patrol, a daemonic host of Daemons met a Druchii raiding force of Dark Elves in a 750-point warband. The host was pure Tzeentch, a flickering tide of horrors and change-fire. The armies fought to a grim Draw.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] On ground marked for Pitched Battle, a daemonic host of Daemons engaged a temple-city cohort of Lizardmen in a 2,000-point army. The daemonic host was sworn to Tzeentch, the Old Ones’ servants meeting the sorcery with cold-blooded discipline. Their army could not withstand the assault and suffered a Solid Defeat.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] With the battle plan set as Capture, a daemonic host of Daemons clashed with a glittering Asur host of High Elves in a 2,000-point army. The host fought beneath the sign of Tzeentch, its sorceries crashing against the discipline of the Asur spearwall. Their army could not withstand the assault and suffered a Solid Defeat.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] Under the demands of Meeting Engagement, a daemonic host of Daemons advanced against a verminous host of Skaven in a 2,000-point army. This was no common daemonic incursion: the host fought as Daemons of Tzeentch, wreathed in change-fire and spiteful sorcery. Their army was driven back in a Solid Defeat.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] On ground marked for Pitched Battle, a daemonic host of Daemons met a temple-city cohort of Lizardmen in a 2,000-point army. Again the field shimmered with Tzeentchian magic, with temple-city cohorts bracing scale and discipline against the Changer. Their army was driven back in a Solid Defeat.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] In the smoke and confusion of Flank Attack, a daemonic host of Daemons clashed with an Imperial army of Empire in a 2,000-point army. The daemonic attack came in the colours of Tzeentch, sorcery flaring across the flank while the Imperial line struggled to hold. Their army forced the enemy back and claimed a Solid Victory.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] On ground marked for Flank Attack, a daemonic host of Daemons crossed blades with an Imperial army of Empire in a 2,000-point army. A second Tzeentchian assault crashed into the Empire, its shifting daemons turning the flank into a nightmare of fire and false futures. Their army won the field with a Solid Victory.

The daemonic tally is still fearsome, but Week 6 showed cracks in the veil. Mortal and cold-blooded foes alike have learned that the warp-spawned can be beaten.

Dogs of War

  • Global standing: #13 ↔ (stable).
  • W6 performance: #14 ↓ (from #8).
  • W6 return: 7 games.
  • Record: 8/5/18 (+2/+0/+5).

The mercenaries tasted both gold and ruin. Tilean steel earned two glorious local massacres, but the paychest was lightened by defeats to Chaos, Dwarfs and the Empire, leaving the Dogs of War with little room for boastful songs.

Battles in Karak Norn Wargaming this week

• [6th Edition – Local] Across a field fought as Night Raid, Luccini_Merchant’s Dogs of War crossed blades with Khorne_Mathias’s Hordes of Chaos in a 500-point Border Patrol; their army could not withstand the assault and suffered a Solid Defeat.

• [6th Edition – Local] Under the demands of Breakthrough, Tilean_Paymaster’s Dogs of War advanced against Ghorgon_Eric’s Beastmen in a 2,000-point army; their army left the field strewn with wreckage after a Massacre.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] With the battle plan set as Capture, a mercenary company of Dogs of War met a Dwarf throng of Dwarfs in a 2,000-point army; their army was driven back in a Solid Defeat.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] On ground marked for Capture, a mercenary company of Dogs of War fell upon a Dwarf throng of Dwarfs in a 2,000-point army; their army yielded the field after a Solid Defeat.

A mercenary captain can dine out on two massacres, but the campaign table is less forgiving. The Dogs of War need paying victories, not heroic anecdotes.

Hordes of Chaos

  • Global standing: #3 ↑ (from #9).
  • W6 performance: #2 ↑ (from #9).
  • W6 return: 9 games.
  • Record: 23/4/10 (+8/+0/+1).

The north erupted. After weeks of lurking outside the highest places, the Hordes of Chaos smashed upward with one of the most violent surges of the campaign, their local warbands crushing the dead at the centre while satellite hosts trampled lesser armies beneath iron-shod boots.

• [6th Edition – Local] Across a field fought as Capture the Centre, Everchosen_ZH’s Hordes of Chaos fielding Archaon's Horde met Strigoi_Marco’s Vampire Counts in a 500-point Border Patrol; their army left the field strewn with wreckage after a Massacre.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] On ground marked for Pitched Battle, a northern warband of Hordes of Chaos advanced against Zambula’s Wood Elves fielding Spirits of Athel Loren (WE-AB) in a 2,000-point army. Their army lost the field by a slender margin, suffering a Minor Defeat.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] On ground marked for Meeting Engagement, a northern warband of Hordes of Chaos crossed blades with an Imperial army of Empire in a 2,000-point army; their army won the field with a Solid Victory.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] Under the demands of Pitched Battle, a northern warband of Hordes of Chaos crossed blades with a greenskin horde of Orcs & Goblins in a 2,000-point army; their army won the field with a Solid Victory.

Chaos is no longer merely circling the elite pack; it is inside it, bellowing for more skulls.

Lizardmen

  • Global standing: #9 ↑ (from #10).
  • W6 performance: #4 ↑ (from #5).
  • W6 return: 7 games.
  • Record: 15/6/9 (+4/+2/+1).

The cold-blooded cohorts fought with the patient brutality of the Old Ones’ design. A local Ambush ended unresolved, but the satellite temple-hosts struck down Daemons, Skaven and greenskins often enough to keep Lustria’s campaign line steady and dangerous.

Battles in Karak Norn Wargaming this week

• [6th Edition – Local] With the battle plan set as Ambush, Tzunki_Tom’s Lizardmen fielding Red Host (LUS) clashed with Tyrant_Urs’s Ogre Kingdoms in a 2,000-point army. Tehenhauin marched with the Red Host, bearing the Engine of the Gods amid skink priests, skink clouds and the brutal muscle of Kroxigors. Neither side could force a decision, and the battle ended in a bloody Draw.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] In the smoke and confusion of Pitched Battle, a temple-city cohort of Lizardmen advanced against a daemonic host of Daemons in a 2,000-point army. Again the field shimmered with Tzeentchian magic, with temple-city cohorts bracing scale and discipline against the Changer. Their army carried the day with a Solid Victory.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] In the smoke and confusion of Pitched Battle, a temple-city cohort of Lizardmen locked shields with a greenskin horde of Orcs & Goblins in a 2,000-point army; their army forced the enemy back and claimed a Solid Victory.

Lustria has not surged, but it has not slipped either. That sort of cold-blooded steadiness wins long campaigns.

Ogre Kingdoms

  • Global standing: #14 ↓ (from #11).
  • W6 performance: #17 ↑ (from #18).
  • W6 return: 7 games.
  • Record: 6/6/14 (+1/+1/+5).

The Ogres found plenty of fighting and precious little feasting. A single great victory over Bretonnia could not hide the fact that the gutlords were beaten back again and again across the satellite theatres.

• [The Old World – Satellite] In the smoke and confusion of Pitched Battle, an Ogre warband of Ogre Kingdoms clashed with a Dwarf throng of Dwarfs in a 4,000-point grand host. Greasus Goldtooth was seen amid the Ogre host, gilded and belligerent, making even defeat look like an argument over tribute. Their army gave ground after a Minor Defeat.

• [The Old World – Satellite] In the smoke and confusion of Capture, an Ogre warband of Ogre Kingdoms crossed blades with a Nehekharan host of Tomb Kings in a 2,000-point army; their army yielded the field after a Solid Defeat.

• [The Old World – Satellite] Under the demands of Meeting Engagement, an Ogre warband of Ogre Kingdoms advanced against a Dwarf throng of Dwarfs in a 750-point warband. This was a rare coalition clash: Ogre Kingdoms fought beside Orcs & Goblins, while the Dwarfs stood shoulder to shoulder with Bretonnia. Their army could not withstand the assault and suffered a Solid Defeat.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] With the battle plan set as Pitched Battle, an Ogre warband of Ogre Kingdoms crossed blades with a Bretonnian lance of Bretonnia in a 3,000-point grand host; their army won the field with a Solid Victory.

The Ogres remain capable of flattening an army, but Week 6 left them hungry, bruised and sliding down the board.

Orcs & Goblins

  • Global standing: #17 ↓ (from #14).
  • W6 performance: #18 ↓ (from #13).
  • W6 return: 16 games.
  • Record: 12/10/40 (+1/+0/+15).

The Waaagh! lurched into one of its blackest weeks. Apart from a single win over the Empire, the greenskins were battered by almost everyone who could find them, from Bretonnian lances to Dwarf axes and Chaos steel.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] Across a field fought as Meeting Engagement, a greenskin horde of Orcs & Goblins advanced against a Dwarf throng of Dwarfs in a 2,000-point army; their army was driven back in a Solid Defeat.

The greenskins have numbers, noise and enthusiasm. What they urgently need is a week in which those things translate into wins.

Vampire Counts

The dead stumbled after their perfect Week 5. Their satellite legions still marched with dreadful certainty, but locally Strigoi_Marco was mauled three times by Archaon’s Horde, and the cost of those defeats was plain on the global board.

Battles in Karak Norn Wargaming this week

• [6th Edition – Local] In the smoke and confusion of Capture the Centre, Strigoi_Marco’s Vampire Counts clashed with Everchosen_ZH’s Hordes of Chaos fielding Archaon's Horde  in three separated 500-point Border Patrol clashes:

  2. In the second, the Vampire army was driven back in a Solid Defeat.
  3. In the third, Strigoi_Marco’s Vampire Counts finally gave ground after a Minor Defeat.

Reports of battles across the world

• [6th Edition – Satellite] Under the demands of Pitched Battle, a midnight host of Vampire Counts fell upon a greenskin horde of Orcs & Goblins in a 2,000-point army. The dead marched under the pallid wisdom of the Necrarchs, its advance driven by corpse-cold sorcery rather than mere weight of numbers. Their army won the field with a Solid Victory.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] On ground marked for Capture, a midnight host of Vampire Counts clashed with a brayherd of Beastmen in a 2,000-point army. A Necrarch master’s will hung over the field, raising the fallen and smothering the brayherd beneath layers of necromancy. Their army forced the enemy back and claimed a Solid Victory.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] With the battle plan set as Meeting Engagement, a midnight host of Vampire Counts engaged an Imperial army of Empire in a 2,000-point army. The midnight host bore the mark of the Necrarchs, a patient, scholarly horror of undeath gathering around the Imperial line. Their army carried the day with a Solid Victory.

The fall is sharp because the previous week was so perfect. The Vampire Counts are still dangerous, but the aura of inevitability has been broken.

Bretonnia surged from the lower ranks with lances levelled. It was not a flawless week, but the sheer number of victories – including a thunderous 3,000-point breakthrough – gave the heralds of the Lady their loudest campaign cry yet.

The Dawi added many grudges, and settled several besides. Their satellite throngs were industrious and bloody-minded, but the local ledger opened with two bitter reverses against Skaven, keeping the holds from turning a busy week into a truly triumphant one.

• [6th Edition – Local] Under the demands of Chosen Objective, Ironbreaker_Chris’s Dwarfs clashed with Queek_Swiss’s Skaven in a 500-point Border Patrol twice:

  2. Finally the Dwarfs could not withstand the assault and suffered a Solid Defeat.

Reports of battles across the world

• [The Old World – Satellite] On ground marked for Pitched Battle, a Dwarf throng of Dwarfs engaged an Ogre warband of Ogre Kingdoms in a 4,000-point grand host. The Empire bled from too many fronts. A local massacre over Bretonnia gave the state troops something to cheer, but the wider map was grim: Chaos, Kislev, Daemons, Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts and the Dawi-Zharr all took their toll.

• [6th Edition – Satellite] On ground marked for Flank Attack, an Imperial army of Empire clashed with a daemonic host of Daemons in a 2,000-point army. A second Tzeentchian assault crashed into the Empire, its shifting daemons turning the flank into a nightmare of fire and false futures. Their army yielded the field after a Solid Defeat.

The Empire’s position is becoming precarious. There is courage in the ranks, but courage alone has not stopped the losses piling up.

Ulthuan answered the week with banners unfurled and spearpoints glittering. The Asur posted the best performance of Week 6, crowned by a 3,000-point Last Stand against the kings of Nehekhara and backed by satellite victories over Daemons, Dark Elves and greenskins.

Kislev’s week was small but fierce. The Tzar’s warriors crushed Beastmen and Bretonnians in local actions and even claimed a satellite success, though defeats to Wood Elves, Dwarfs and Bretonnia kept the ice from spreading further up the table.

The ratmen finally gnawed their way to the very top of the campaign ladder. Week 6 was not a clean sweep, but it was exactly the sort of treacherous, profitable advance the Under-Empire delights in: a pair of local victories over the Dawi and more warpstone-stained success in the satellite theatres.

The kings of Nehekhara endured a week of mixed omens. Their grand local host was checked by High Elf sea-lords, yet the satellite legions continued to grind out victories, proving once again that the dead do not need momentum to keep marching.
