War Room: A Dark Conspiracy – Week 8 Field Report

WEEK 8 – Reports from the Battlefront

114 clashes reached the campaign desk this week, the largest accounting of the war so far. From knife-work in 500-point patrols to 3,000-point grand hosts, Week 8 did not merely adjust the standings: it tore them open and stitched them back together in a bloodier shape.

The headline belongs to the Dark Elves. After weeks of pressure from Skaven, Daemons and the old powers of the world, Naggaroth struck back with the best weekly return and reclaimed the global crown. Yet the story is not theirs alone: Wood Elves delivered the week’s most graceful counterstroke, Daemons surged from the lower edge of the elite pack into third, and the Dawi marched back into the upper ranks with grim arithmetic.

Best performers this week:

  1. Dark Elves: 2.11 PPG over 19 games; W8 rank #1 ↑ (from #7).
  2. Daemons: 1.89 PPG over 9 games; W8 rank #2 ↑ (from #17).
  3. Wood Elves: 1.88 PPG over 8 games; W8 rank #3 ↑ (from #13).
  4. Tomb Kings: 1.67 PPG over 15 games; W8 rank #4 ↔ (stable).
  5. Kislev: 1.62 PPG over 8 games; W8 rank #5 ↓ (from #2).
  6. Lizardmen: 1.56 PPG over 9 games; W8 rank #6 ↑ (from #8).
  7. Dwarfs: 1.50 PPG over 12 games; W8 rank #7 ↑ (from #11).
  8. Skaven: 1.50 PPG over 10 games; W8 rank #8 ↑ (from #14).
  9. Bretonnia: 1.35 PPG over 20 games; W8 rank #9 ↑ (from #10).
  10. Ogre Kingdoms: 1.29 PPG over 14 games; W8 rank #10 ↓ (from #1).
  11. Dogs of War: 1.22 PPG over 9 games; W8 rank #11 ↑ (from #15).
  12. High Elves: 1.12 PPG over 17 games; W8 rank #12 ↓ (from #5).
  13. The Empire: 1.08 PPG over 13 games; W8 rank #13 ↑ (from #18).
  14. Chaos Dwarfs: 0.93 PPG over 14 games; W8 rank #14 ↓ (from #6).
  15. Vampire Counts: 0.89 PPG over 9 games; W8 rank #15 ↓ (from #9).
  16. Hordes of Chaos: 0.77 PPG over 12 games; W8 rank #16 ↓ (from #3).
  17. Beastmen: 0.82 PPG over 17 games; W8 rank #17 ↓ (from #16).
  18. Orcs & Goblins: 0.74 PPG over 19 games; W8 rank #18 ↓ (from #12).
On the global board, Dark Elves rise back to #1, pushing Skaven down to #2 despite the ratmen’s continued presence in the upper war. Daemons make the most dramatic global leap, climbing from #10 to #3, while Dwarfs, Tomb Kings and Lizardmen all harden the middle of the top pack. The week was crueler to High Elves, Hordes of Chaos and Chaos Dwarfs, each of whom lost hard-won ground. At the foot of the table, Orcs & Goblins and Beastmen remain noisy, numerous and badly bloodied.

Battles of note:

  • Dark Elves reclaim the crown: the Druchii fought nineteen recorded engagements and produced forty campaign points, including victories over High Elves, Dwarfs, Skaven, Vampire Counts and the Empire. The Black Arks are not merely raiding now – they are ruling again.
  • The forests strike back: Wood Elves posted the same rounded PPG as the Dark Elves and turned Week 8 into a lesson in timing, with a Massacre against the Chaos host, giving the Asrai their sharpest headline.
  • Clan Skryre against Middenland: Zambula’s Skaven, fielding Clan Skryre - SAD, twice broke Heldenhammer_ZH’s Army of Middenland under Sheer Heroism! The Empire stood beneath the banners of men; the ratmen answered with engines, warpstone and malice.
  • The grand local hammer-blows: Sotek_Awakens’ Lizardmen annihilated Ghorgon_Eric’s Beastmen in a 3,000-point Pitched Battle, while Grail_Seeker’s Bretonnians answered with 3,000-point massacres of Dogs of War and Chaos Dwarfs.
  • Coalition warfare returns: Week 8 included several 2v2 satellite actions, with Beastmen and Orcs & Goblins fighting Empire and Dwarfs to a draw, and Ogre-led coalitions dragging Daemons, Chaos Dwarfs and Hordes of Chaos into the wider struggle.

Here is the master ledger of this week’s tabletop advances.

II. Faction-Specific Tactical Engagements

II.I Agents of the Slann

The herdstones shook under a miserable weight of casualties. Beastmen snatched points from Dwarfs, Dogs of War and Tomb Kings, but local losses to Bretonnia, Lizardmen and mercenaries kept the brayherds buried at the bottom of the campaign pile.

Hashut’s fires burned hot at the start and cold by the end. The Dawi-Zharr mauled Chaos locally, then suffered a string of punishing defeats to Bretonnia and Kislev, leaving the furnaces glowing but the standings badly scarred.

The sons of Hashut can still break armies. The problem is that too many armies broke them back.

Naggaroth struck like a knife in the dark. After losing the summit in Week 6 and fighting through a crowded Week 7, the Druchii returned with the campaign’s strongest week: local stubbornness against Daemons and a storm of satellite victories that put them back above every rival.

The Black Arks have their throne again. It was not flawless, but it was decisive, and every rival now has to look upward at Naggaroth once more.

  • W8 performance: #2 ↑ (from #17).
  • W8 return: 1.89 PPG over 9 games.
  • Record: 30/7/16 (+6/+1/+2).

The veil tore open again, and this time the warp-things surged. Local setbacks against the Druchii were more than offset by bloody work across the wider war, where Daemons battered High Elves, Bretonnians, Ogres and greenskins before rising seven places on the global board.

The warp is rising again. If Week 8 proved anything, it is that Daemons can lose individual battles and still terrify the wider campaign.

The northern storm faltered. After the thunderous rise of Week 6, Chaos found itself blunted by Hashut’s patrols, Dark Elf raids and a brutal Wood Elf massacre, with only a handful of victories keeping the gods’ favour from looking altogether spent.

It is a small rise, but after recent weeks the Empire will take it. Sigmar’s sons are not saved, but they are not silent either.

Ulthuan’s banners flew everywhere and bled everywhere. Local victories over Bretonnia were balanced by two bruising losses to Ogres and a bruising run of kin-strife and satellite reverses, dragging the Asur down from the high places they had only just reclaimed.

The Asur remain dangerous, but Week 8 cost them dearly. Ulthuan has steel; what it needs next is steadier timing.

  • W8 return: 1.62 PPG over 8 games.
  • Record: 13/6/22 (+3/+2/+3).

Kislev held its place with ice in its veins. Two local massacres of the Chaos Dwarfs gave the Tzar’s warriors a fine tale for the fire, while the satellite fronts delivered enough draws and setbacks to keep the climb modest rather than triumphant.

  • W8 return: 1.50 PPG over 10 games.

The Under-Empire lost the crown, but not the war. Skaven victories over the Empire and Tomb Kings kept the machinery turning, though failures against Dark Elves, Ogres and Chaos made the week feel more like a scramble through the tunnels than a clean ascent.

Second place is no collapse, but the scent of weakness travels fast underground. The ratmen remain dangerous; they are simply being hunted now.

The dead marched in number, and number matters. A local setback against Clan Pestilens could not stop the Nehekharan war machine, whose satellite legions gathered victories from the Empire, Kislev, Bretonnia, Lizardmen and High Elves with remorseless patience.

Athel Loren whispered, and then it struck. The Wood Elves transformed a modest global position into the week’s most elegant counterstroke, weathering one local defeat before racking up a string of satellite successes – including a devastating blow against Chaos.
