War Room: A Dark Conspiracy – Week 9 Field Report

WEEK 9 – Reports from the Battlefront

Seventy-five clashes reached the campaign desk this week. After the great bloodletting of Week 8, the war did not explode outward so much as tighten: fewer battles, sharper consequences, and several factions discovering that a single bad local run can echo across the whole campaign table.

The Dark Elves remain on the global throne, but Week 9 belonged to the High Elves, whose clean return made Ulthuan the week’s brightest banner. Behind them, the Dogs of War enjoyed a rare mercenary flourish, Vampire Counts dragged the Empire into the grave, and Daemons kept their place among the campaign’s true terrors. The hardest sound came from the Dwarf holds, where three local reverses against Wood Elves helped send the Dawi sliding down the board.

Best performers this week:

  • High Elves: 2.12 PPG over 8 games; W9 rank #1 ↑ (from #12).
  • Daemons: 2.00 PPG over 10 games; W9 rank #2 ↑ (from #3).
  • Dogs of War: 2.00 PPG over 7 games; W9 rank #3 ↑ (from #11).
  • Vampire Counts: 2.00 PPG over 7 games; W9 rank #4 ↑ (from #15).
  • Tomb Kings: 1.83 PPG over 6 games; W9 rank #5 ↓ (from #4).
  • Hordes of Chaos: 1.80 PPG over 5 games; W9 rank #6 ↑ (from #17).
  • Lizardmen: 1.80 PPG over 5 games; W9 rank #7 ↓ (from #6).
  • Dark Elves: 1.75 PPG over 8 games; W9 rank #8 ↓ (from #1).
  • Wood Elves: 1.73 PPG over 11 games; W9 rank #9 ↓ (from #2).
  • Kislev: 1.60 PPG over 5 games; W9 rank #10 ↓ (from #5).
  • Chaos Dwarfs: 1.38 PPG over 8 games; W9 rank #11 ↑ (from #14).
  • Skaven: 1.29 PPG over 7 games; W9 rank #12 ↓ (from #8).
  • Bretonnia: 1.11 PPG over 9 games; W9 rank #13 ↓ (from #9).
  • Ogre Kingdoms: 1.00 PPG over 8 games; W9 rank #14 ↓ (from #10).
  • Dwarfs: 0.92 PPG over 12 games; W9 rank #15 ↓ (from #7).
  • The Empire: 0.85 PPG over 13 games; W9 rank #16 ↓ (from #13).
  • Beastmen: 0.60 PPG over 10 games; W9 rank #17 ↓ (from #16).
  • Orcs & Goblins: 0.27 PPG over 11 games; W9 rank #18 ↔ (stable).
On the global board, Dark Elves hold #1, with Skaven still clinging to #2 and Daemons remaining in the top three. The High Elves make the week’s sharpest upper-table move, rising into #4 after the best weekly performance, while Tomb Kings and Lizardmen keep the old powers packed tightly behind them. Dwarfs suffer the most visible fall, tumbling from the upper tier into the middle, while Empire, Orcs & Goblins and Beastmen remain trapped near the foot of the campaign.

Battles of note:
  • Ulthuan’s return: WhiteTower_HP twice drove Orion_CH’s Wood Elves back in The Old World Breakthrough, while Lothern_Pat held the line against Beastmen. The High Elves turned discipline into the best Week 9 return.
  • The paymasters collect: Luccini_Merchant and Zambula gave Dogs of War one of their finest weeks, with mercenary victories over Beastmen and Empire and enough points to climb the global board.
  • The Empire bleeds again: Vampire Counts recorded three Pitched Battle victories over Imperial armies, including a 3,000-point field, while Kislev and Chaos Dwarfs added further local humiliations.
  • Athel Loren writes grudges: Athel_Sarah defeated Ironbreaker_Chris in three straight 500-point Capture the Centre clashes, leaving the Dawi with fresh entries in the grudgebook and a painful global drop.
  • The old enemy still cuts deepest: Dark Elves and High Elves traded blows across Flank Attack and Pitched Battle, splitting honours while Naggaroth kept the global crown and Ulthuan seized the week’s laurels.

Here is the master ledger of this week’s tabletop advances.

II. Faction-Specific Tactical Engagements

II.I Agents of the Slann

Beastmen

  • Global standing: #18 ↔ (stable).
  • W9 performance: #17 ↓ (from #16).
  • W9 return: 0.60 PPG over 10 games.
  • Record: 13/10/39 (+1/+3/+6).

The brayherds stayed at the foot of the table, and Week 9 did little to change the smell of the herdstone. There were draws and one satellite victory, but the local fields were merciless.

The herd survives, but survival is a poor substitute for conquest.

Chaos Dwarfs

  • Global standing: #10 ↔ (stable).
  • W9 performance: #11 ↑ (from #14).
  • W9 return: 1.38 PPG over 8 games.
  • Record: 24/10/23 (+2/+2/+4).

Hashut’s servants held their ground in the middle of the table. Their week mixed infernal triumphs with stubborn reverses, exactly the sort of ledger that keeps the furnaces burning but the overseers angry.

• [6th Edition – Local] In the smoke and press of Breakthrough, Zharr_Naggrund_K’s Chaos Dwarfs met Be_lakor_CH’s Daemons fielding Daemonic Legion (SoC, p.27-32) in a 2,000-point army. Be'Lakor, the Dark Master, moved at the head of the daemonic legion, a living shadow falling across the field. Dark Elves

  • Global standing: #1 ↔ (stable).
  • W9 performance: #8 ↓ (from #1).
  • W9 return: 1.75 PPG over 8 games.
  • Record: 41/14/11 (+3/+2/+3).

Naggaroth kept the crown, but Week 9 was no victory parade. The Druchii won enough to remain feared, yet defeats and draws against old enemies showed the throne is still balanced on knife-points.

The crown remains in Druchii hands, though the rivals below can now see where the armour has been scratched.

Daemons

  • Global standing: #3 ↔ (stable).
  • W9 performance: #2 ↑ (from #3).
  • W9 return: 2.00 PPG over 10 games.
  • Record: 36/11/17 (+4/+4/+3).

The warp held its place in the top three and did so with unnerving steadiness. Daemons fought across every scale of war, turning some fields into sorcerous nightmares and others into stubborn stalemates.

• [6th Edition – Local] Beneath the hard rules of Breakthrough, Be_lakor_CH’s Daemons fielding Daemonic Legion (SoC, p.27-32) crossed blades with Zharr_Naggrund_K’s Chaos Dwarfs in a 2,000-point army. • [The Old World – Satellite] In the smoke and press of Table Quarters, an allied contingent of Daemons locked shields with a Dwarf throng of Dwarfs fighting beside an allied contingent of Bretonnia fielding Bretonnian Exiles (AJ) in a 500-point Border Patrol. • [6th Edition – Satellite] With the battle plan set as Meeting Engagement, a daemonic host of Daemons fell upon a greenskin horde of Orcs & Goblins in a 2,000-point army. The veil has not torn wide open, but it is thinning; the daemonic host remains one of the campaign’s great threats.

Dogs of War

  • W9 return: 2.00 PPG over 7 games.

Chaos holds its station. The gods may demand more next week, but this one at least kept the banners upright.

  • W9 return: 1.80 PPG over 5 games.
  • Record: 27/10/15 (+2/+1/+2).

The Great Plan advanced by inches rather than thunderclaps. Lizardmen traded blows with Skaven, checked the undead locally and kept the temple-cities fixed in the upper half of the war.

  • W9 return: 1.00 PPG over 8 games.

Clan Skryre engines shrieked through the battle line while the Ogre tyrant’s brute presence turned every exchange into a contest of meat against machinery. • [6th Edition – Satellite] Across ground marked for Pitched Battle, an Ogre warband of Ogre Kingdoms came to grips with a Dawi-Zharr column of Chaos Dwarfs in a 2,000-point army. The Ogres forced the issue and secured a Solid Victory.

Orcs & Goblins

  • W9 performance: #18 ↔ (stable).
  • W9 return: 0.27 PPG over 11 games.
  • Record: 21/15/69 (+0/+1/+10).

The Waaagh! made noise enough for ten campaigns and gained almost nothing for it. One bright strike against Tomb Kings could not offset the great heap of defeats that followed.
